Volunteers

The Bulldog organization is successful due to adult volunteers serving a variety of functions.  Several opportunities are available to you as a volunteer.  Your dedication and support is very much appreciated and is an important part of our organization's success and future.  The ultimate rewards are those in which our players and their families experience.  Here is a basic description of a number of key places in which you are invited to participate.
  • Team Manager
Adult men and women are needed to organize and teach our youth baseball and softball players.  Teaching individual baseball skills, team play and sportsmanship at a variety of skill levels in a controlled competitive environment is the challenge.  Managers need basic baseball knowledge and the desire to learn more.  Baseball information and instruction for managers is available from the Bulldog organization through clinics and mentoring.
Responsibilities include the ability to communicate to youth players at a variety of skill levels.  Select coaches to assist at instruction, practices and games.  Draft a team of players from the age pool in their league.  Select a team Mom.  Schedule practices during pre-season and regular season.  Organize practice plans for baseball skills, safety and team drills.  Be involved with the organization and encourage parents to get involved.
  • Coach

Adult men and women are needed to assist Managers in the organization and teaching of our youth baseball and softball teams.  While each team is limited to two "protected" coaches, successful teams generally have additional coaches involved in the teaching process.  Coaches assist in all aspects in which the manager may be involved and should be ready to step forward in the manager's absence. The best organized teams delegate responsibilities among the coaching staff which gives practices more efficient "reps" and individual instruction per player.  Call your league president for info.
  • Team Mom

One adult per team is needed for this position. Team Moms will be asked to attend a meeting in April. The team mom is responsible for distributing and collecting raffle tickets and money, coordinating "float" or team decorations for the opening day parade, organizing snack and concession schedules, and following up with parents during the team's concession week to ensure that the team's scheduled shifts were worked. Please contact Connie Augle at (708) 633-8104 if you have any questions.
  • Team Sponsor
Team sponsor revenue helps to keep participation costs down for our families. Our goal is to have at least one sponsor for each team in our organization. Local businesses and organizations can sponsor a team for the cost of $250.00. Sponsors are acknowledged to our membership with a plaque and receive special recognition on our website(tpbulldogbaseball.com). Please contact Rick Nugent at (708) 532-3836 if you know of someone who may be interested in sponsoring a team.
  • Umpire
Experienced adult umpires are needed at the 11 and up age levels in both baseball and softball. Experience can include IHSA registration (having "played the game" is NOT umpire experience). Knowledge of the rules and sound judgment are essential. Umpire hustle, demeanor and fairness also set an example for our youth players. Mature teens (age 13 and up) and adults from the organization can take a three night, 3 hour per night clinic on umpiring which is offered by the organization each April.  The organization pays umpires for officiating games at the age 9 through 16 levels (Mustang, Bronco, Pony, Colt, Girls Softball). Contact Gary Grohovena at (708) 429-1909 for further information.
  • Field Maintenance
While our fields are on the property of the Tinley Park Park District, the Bulldogs organization has invested additional funds in scoreboards, fencing, infields, sprinklers and lighting which enhances the baseball experience for our youth. Some of these investments require our organization's continued maintenance. Managers and Coaches have required maintenance responsibilities (set bases, chalk lines, pack mound and batters boxes) every game. Assistance will be requested from parents in this regard. Our annual field maintenance day in April, prior to opening day, involves some major fix up and grooming (painting, repairs, leveling, etc.). We need parents to assist their team managers that day.  We do hire mature teens or adults to perform daily maintenance on some of our fields throughout the season. These tasks are performed between 3:00 - 5:00 pm. weekdays and 7:00 - 9:00 am. Saturdays. Please contact Gary Grohovena at (708) 429-1909 for further information.
  • Concession Supervisor

Adults are needed to supervise concession shifts from open to close. The supervisor would need to be able to arrive at the stand by 3:00 to begin equipment warm up. The supervisor would need to return by 4:30 to be present for volunteers arriving at the 5:00 pm. shift.  The supervisor would oversee the shift cleanup, restocking, defrosting, and inventory.  Please contact Connie Augle at (708) 633-8104 if you have any questions or can volunteer your time.
  • Committees
Additional voluntary help is needed for fundraising, and tournaments.  Join us... General monthly meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of every month, throughout the year at 8:00 pm. at the Bulldog Field house. Your involvement enhances your son's or daughter's experience.

How would you like to get involved with YOUR Bulldog organization?!
